COLLECT THE SAMPLE –
An official sample must be taken by a veterinarian. The veterinarian checks the dog’s microchip and writes it down on the sampling form.
How to take a buccal cell DNA sample:
The swab will be placed in the original package after sampling, so open the package carefully and save it. Don’t touch the brush tip of the swab.
Brush the buccal surface firmly for about 15 seconds. The color of the swab will not change after sampling.
The brush shouldn’t be left wet from saliva. Air-dry the swabs for at least 15 minutes. This step is important because wet swabs are susceptible to contamination.
Place the dry swabs back in their original packages and close them with tape. Mark each package with a barcode sticker.
SHIP THE SAMPLES TO GENOSCOPER LABORATORIES –
You will be notified by email as soon as the results are ready. The results will be available in the dog’s MyDogDNA profile in 4 – 6 weeks from the date the samples have arrived at the laboratory.
